I've been trying to find a review and as much opinions as possible on this Graphics Card as I was told it was a cost effective, good stable card.

I've noticed that Dell uses it as its 64mb card and some other distributors use it aswell, but that doesnt necessarily mean its good....

Is it good and does anyone out there in Sciforums use it?!

I hate to inform you of this, but it is a terrible card - or, at least I should say, not good for gaming.

Any of the MX series of cards are basically meant as cheap desktop displays.

If you use your PC for gaming, I would suggest an ATI Raedeon 9700 non pro version (best mix between price and performance, though I don't know how many vendors there are that offer the 9700 regular non pro version). If you want to have a video capture card, you can look for the 9700 All In Wonder.

If you want to go for a GeForce video card, I would suggest the GeForce 4 Ti series. In particular the 4200 offers good performance for its price.

Have a look here for benchmark scores to see what I mean

He's right. SiS has faster cards than the Geforce4 MX series, which is pretty darn sad.

I've never used a GeForce 4 MX, but I have got a GeForce 4 Ti, and I've never had any problems. If you live reasonably close to Cambridge try MKC computers - I use them for parts, very cheap (afaik).

Yea but ATI release the 9800 Pro ULTIMATE!!!! Ultimate, man!

My brother has a Geforce2 MX card in his Dell, and it can play games fine, it won't play smoothly with high resolution though. GTA Vice City works very nicely on his computer...he's got a Pentium4 1.5mhz and 256mb of ram.

I spent $130 on a Radeon9500 128mb non pro. I used some software to "unlock" 4 pixel pipelines and suddenly my card became a 9700 non pro. Then, with the same software I overclocked the card to 330mhz core and the memory to 301mhz, or 600mhz ddr. Didn't have to buy any special cooling, so with $130 I got something along the lines of a Radeon 9800 which is retailing for close to $250.

If you don't play the latest games to come out, an MX card shouldn't be horrible for you. $40 for a Geforce4mx sounds like a good deal....pricewatch.com But when I saw the TomsHardware chart thing, it looks like the radeon7500 beat out all of the G4mx cards and it's about the same price. But...look at the system they used to test those cards P4 3.06ghz Hyperthreading, 512mb ddr333!!!! I wonder if the results would be in the same order if they used a computer that the average person could buy.

I'm planning on buying an NForce2 board with an IGP that is a Geforce4MX, I have read reviews that go both ways about it. My feeling is that I will be able to play most of the games I want on a reasonable resolution without having to come off the coin for a new video card right away.

My logic is that the system is a XP2500+ Barton with 512 of DDR400, audio, video, network, case w/350Watt PS from EnerMax with an extra case fan and it comes up just over $400US. So it is a complete system minus the drives and it fits easily in to most budgets and will play any game out right now reasonable well with zero cards in the board.

If all else fails I have a Geforece3 still which is probably faster than the 4MX. Has anyone read anything about the P4 boards with build in Radeon 9100s? Are they supposed to be any good?

The Geforce 4 really has no reason to exist in the market accept nVidia's name. The SiS Xabre 400, Radeon 9000, Radeon 8500LE, are all faster. I woudn't be surprised if even a Geforce 3 would be faster - and if you are going that far downhill, the goodl old Voodoo 5 would be a contender when it's image quality is taken into consideration.

All in all, I personally cannot recommend the Geforce 4MX in the end. However, I would think the Xabre 400 (around $60-70 for the 64MB version) would be a worthwhile solution, or a Radeon 9000. (Around $80)
