Anyone here watch 24? This season seems to be off to a good start, although I found some things implausible already.

Why the hell would President Palmer be so eager to negotiate with terrorists? I guessed immediately that the guy they were handing Jack over to was the real bad guy, no one on his staff did?

And no contingency plan to grab up Jack and the terrorist if the operation went south as when he threatened to not reveal the location of the "real terrorist"?

Why so reluctant to send a swat team to pick up the terrorist instead of calling in an air strike? Why not have the air strike on standby and hit the house only if unable to capture the guy?

Still, it was exciting and I'm looking forward to tommorow's episode. Notice they have the one good Muslim to balance out the bad ones planting suitcase nukes all over the country. And how ironic that the Muslim kid that was saved from an angry mob by a neighboor turns out to actually be a terrorist and will return the favor by killing the neighboors kid!

It seems to me that this new president Palmer is simply indecisive and shows poor judgement in choosing his advisors. Not to mention in not listening to Jack Bower who, in previous seasons, has never been wrong.

People like me? After seeing the way David Palmer dealt with terrorists, I'd have voted for him. I couldn't care less about what race the president is. So long as he's conservative and kicks Islamofascist ass.

Indeed, I'd be willing to bet the first black president will be Republican. He'd get Republican votes for being conservative and some Blacks would vote for him due to his race. A liberal black like Obama has no cross over appeal.

Give me a break, I was refering to the character in the context of the show. This is a thread about a TV show, after all.

His brother wasn't bad at all, no. But this guy? Screams of cowardice and personified.

You know what I find implausible about the show?

That a quarter of the episodes aren't just Jack sitting in traffic.

Yes. The last ten minutes really caught me off gaurd...

I had -not- expected that at all.

What an episode. But again, why the hell would the president agree to release a couple hundred terrorists on the word of a guy he knows to be a liar? It makes no sense whatsoever.

And what about that family with Ahmad, the terrorist kid. Some bleeding pencil neck terrorist comes into my house, I do not do what he says. I pretend to for a few minutes, wait for an opening, and kill him. I don't care if he unloads his gun into me in the process, he'll be dead and my family will survive. If you're being held by terrorists, you are as good as dead unless you escape.

So we have a nuke going off on US soil as a direct result of an idiotic president and and idiotic father. I thought maybe he would redeem himself at the last second by stopping the detonation. But he didn't. Seems he reserves violent attacks for shopkeepers, not terrorists.

Honestly, this show is probably a pretty good representation of reality. You have guys like Jack Bower risking their lives and doing all they can to defend this nation, and you have idiots at the top undercutting them at every turn.

Can't wait for the next episode.

And precisely, Madanthonywayne, the absurdity of listening to a terrorist like that. Hell, even the son should have realized he had about a billion opportunities for action. The terrorist allowing him to hug his mother was an excellent instance of that. He was within side-kicking range of the gun or he could have thrown both of them into the terrorist and wrestled the gun out of his grasp.

I didn't expect David Palmer's brother to turn out this way. Although when he was his advisor, knowing how underhanded and dirty he could get, now I can kinda see it. He totally lacks the integrity of his brother David. That's what happens when you vote for family members expecting them to be like the original. ;)

Not willing to die for nothing, Jack pretends to be dead and then rips out the throat of his guard with his mouth since he's tied to a chair and can't use his hands. He then escapes. Tells the new president they are going after the wrong guy. The president won't call off the air strike, so Jack rescues the "former" terrorist gone good from the house.

Meanwhile this high school muslim kid is rescued from a mob by a benevelent neighbor and he returns the favor by threatening to kill the guy's whole family because he really is a terrorist (the mob was right!). The kid is too injured to complete his "mission". The father then picks up a component for the kid and delivers it to the terrorists. The terrorist then calls the kid and tells him to kill the hostage. Just as he's about to, Jack rushes in, and saves the hostage.

They end up getting the location of the terrorist headquarters from the hostage who heard the terrorist kid give directions. Jack is forced to shoot that black agent to save the terrorist gone good and so doesn't go on to terrorist HQ. The strike team arrives, begins killing terrorists, but they manage to set off the suitcase nuke right then rather than be captured. The father who delivered the nuke component is still there at the time and gets nuked too.

I've left some stuff out, but that should bring you up to speed.

It's engaging enough that I'm watching, but I'm very disappointed. So far it's shaping up to be one of my least favorite seasons, like that horrible one with the poison gas in the hotel. My wife gave up on that one.

For starters, I was very much looking forward to a season about US-China relations. They've already had European terrorists, Russian terrorists, and Middle Eastern terrorists. It's time to get into another part of the world. It would have been great to see Jack rescued. Instead I sat down with my beer and my munchies and Jack was already on his way home. Very disappointed!

But what's worse is that this is yet another story about Middle Eastern terrorists. All right, I know that the show is all about the "Counter-Terrorist Unit" so they're probably going to have a lot of story lines about terrorism, but they're overdoing the Middle East. There are Islamic terrorists in Indonesia! Why don't they ever have to deal with Basques or Tamil Tigers? Or home-grown nutcases llike the guy who blew up the federal building in Oklahoma?

Considering how Hollywood is always lambasted by the Religious Redneck Retards as being "too liberal," I was disgusted by their portrayal of an America that is under the daily threat of attacks by Muslims. Everywhere we look in L.A., there are mobs of Muslims conspiring to blow up our country. Even the kid whose neighbors went out on a limb to support him ends up being a terrorist who kills one of them and almost kills another. If I believed in the theory of TV as subtle propaganda, this is not exactly what I want the RRRs in Alabama and Idaho thinking about at bedtime, as they kiss their guns and their crosses... before beating their wives and raping their daughters.

The statistician in me was quietly doing the arithmetic as they announced the death tolls in the attacks, and realizing that it was still not even close to 9/11. Even in Jack Bauer's America, terrorism is still a statistically insignificant cause of death, about as bad as lightning and bee stings. That statistician was thinking about how many lives could be saved by the billions of dollars spent on CTU if they were directed instead to AIDS research or simply making breath-alyzers standard equipment on all cars.

And then they manage to set off a briefcase-nuke in Granada Hills. For those of you who are not Angeleños, that's a distant mountainous region, more boondocks than suburb. Not exactly a population center, the blast radius will probably only get a few dozen homes, but still the fallout is going to kill several thousand people and probably surpass the death toll of 9/11.

The days of saying that bleeding-heart liberals are in charge of Hollywood are over. I wonder how many American mosques were set on fire this week?

Yeah, I too, was hoping that we'd see more China-U.S. relations. With the prequel in the Season 5 DVD collection, it showed a bit of that and was hoping they'd expand on it. Who knows, it may be like Season 3, the one you didn't like much, where it may be somewhat of a dual-season involving both the other 4 suitcase nukes and also China.

And yeah, those bastards took out Six Flags! Oh well, it's going anyways since the owners wanna sell that land since it's so valuable at the moment -- well, not anymore, lol.

You have to feel sorry for the L.A. in the 24 universe. It has had a nuke go off near it, a nuclear plant meltdown, multiple bombings, nerve gas releases, and finally, a small nuke actually goes off in the city. This alternate version of Los Angeles is almost as dangerous a place to live as Baghdad.

And the hook this season appears to be that Jack Bauer may be starting to lose it.

I doubt they'll top last season, maybe it should have been the last one.

I actually liked how they set the nuke off. You were all set for someone to stop it just in the nick of time. But the bad guys managed to prevail, as they often do in real life. And the bad guys catching the sneaky satellite surveillance; has Chloe met her match?

I still have some hope for a good season.

Chloe is smart enough to understand that she's not the only smart person in the world. If she can reprogram an off-network satellite, there's somebody out there who can catch her doing it. It was bad writing for her not to realize that.

Completely preposterous. Especially considering that when the president agreed to release the couple hundred terrorists the guy who made the demand was already known to be dishonest and he didn't even make a specific threat!

Another exciting episode. President Palmer acknowledged his responsibility for the nuke. Maybe he has learned his lesson, though I doubt it.

However, we were told that Jack and his sister-in-law had an affair before she married his brother. Perhaps that is his son.
