15,000

Dear sciforumers,

this is post No. 15,000 of Spuriousmonkey. I thought for several hours about the content of my 15,000th post. And I couldn't think of anything really good. Obviously a sane person would wait one day and make something really interesting. However, we all know that patience is not a virtue of a post whore.

And what a memorable day it is. Not only did I do the impossible, Sciforums is no longer Sciforums. The ownership has changed. We all wish things will remain the same, but things never do. Sciforums will probably be turned into a flashy flash forum with no 'spirit'. Just the same as all the others. I just hope I am wrong.

I can't really remember how I found sciforums. I think it was a google search for something. It was the year 2002. A rather unremarkable year in the history of mankind. No nukes were dropped. No new monkey species was discovered in the rainforests of Borneo or Brazil. I found a little gem: Sciforums.

I started out as a very decent chap. My first few hundred posts were almost all contained within the science subforums concentrated in the biology subforum. Things started to go wrong once I ventured more and more outside the world of sci-science. I entered the world of sci-soap. I wasn't a major player yet, or not even a minor player for that matter. Easily forgotten, easily unnoticed. That is until the monkey started to become more himself. Who could still ignore this excrement loving Dutch uncle? Only Athelwulf apparently!

My favourite thread of all times is the scivillage thread. Indeed, a thread in which there is no participation of Xev and Gendanken. This may seem strange to some, but the monkey is his own star and does not have to focus on other sciforums celebrities.

Surely the monkey had his downs too. A nasty incident on another forum led to the exposure of my true identity on this forum. I took me a while to realize it didn't really matter. I'm not the fastest mind on the block, just the most correct one. Well, that was it I guess so technically I had only one down. Sue me.

I had many more ups! Every post I made contributed directly to world peace or a better understanding of everything! It's just marvelous! And this lead to much jealousy because people are monkeys who all stare at my shiny ass from below and wish they would sit above me in the monkey tree. Especially when I had a bad case of diarrhea.

I must say that in the last months sciforums had become in my eyes too negative due to the lack of moderation. It took me a while to get used to it. The lack of moderation also added something to sciforums. The humour content increased significantly. At the moment I am not sure I would like to see the situation being reversed. Lately there have been some really funny threads that predictably have not been appreciated by all. However, I did.

And now a new era has started in sciforums. No more porfiry, whose name I have mispelled at least 56 times in the past without being banned, and a monkey with way too many posts. The world is heading for catastrophe and let us hope that this catastrophe is not the end of sciforums, but something less important such as North Korea nuking the shit out of South Korea!

Thank you for you attention.

I'd be interested in how you think sciforums has made your life better? Has the time spent here been of some value to you and if so, what? Could your time have been better spent on something else like, say, helpiing out at the local soup kitchen for the poor and homeless ...you know, things like that?

Just curious, of course.

Ooooh celebrations and congratulations for my all time favorite monkey outcast, I have to shed a tear in his honour for this magnificent feat of inhuman strength and cunning that our own resident outcast has done, it is truely amazing. Facing the countless horrors of the forums he stood strong and... oooh coookie

The homeless get wellfare benefit here. And a place to live if they want to. But they don't. They just hang around shopping centers and drink beer. Sometimes a few slip through the net. Usually ones with mental problems.

Anyway, don't you feel better about yourself after being educated constantly by me?

I was going to announce this myself, but the cat is out of the bag. Indeed, ownership of the forum has changed hands as of a few days ago and I will no longer be involved in the direct operation of the forum. I will retain my rank as administrator for the time being, as will the moderators, but what happens in the future is now in the hands of Zoran and his company. Please join me in welcoming him to sciforums.

Naturally, I have some mixed feelings about this change. sciforums has been around for many years and I am anxious about what direction it will take without me. At the same time, it's well known that in recent months I've had little time to devote to the site, either to participate or to administrate. The proper thing to do was to find someone who could give this community the care and attention it deserves, backed up with the financial capacities to keep it running. This is one of the finest communities on the web, and I hope that the new owners can appreciate it, quirks and all, and keep it thriving for many years to come.

I'm not certain how much time I'll be spending around here in the coming months, so let me take this opportunity to thank everyone for making one of the most interesting communities on the web. It's been fun. :)

Dave.

15,000 post... a representation of free-time.

I figured that if it took him an average of 30 seconds a post, he spent 125 waking hours posting.

That does not take into account how much time he spent reading posts, browsing the forums, etc.

Not to worry. Most posts were made during work time.

And my brain is probably feminized. I usually multitask while posting.
